How Does Mubea Extend Disc Spring Life?

One method to extend fatigue life beyond base DIN 16983 expectations is shot peening, a process that induces a compressive residual stress layer to avoid the propagation of microcracks in a surface.

Alternatively, Mubea’s unique Generation II process for disc springs can extend fatigue life significantly compared to other conventional Belleville Disc Springs, up to a factor of 10 times. This deep rolling process offers benefits such as an increase in fatigue life & travel capability, and requires less installation space, making it a valuable enhancement for disc spring applications. In this process, the most highly stressed surface of the spring is burnished to significantly reduce tensile stress during compression.

Additionally, Mubea offers disc springs in a wide range of materials, including stainless spring steels and steels capable of withstanding temperatures as low as -200°C and as high as 500°C. Matching the material to the application can help ensure a long spring life.
